Is my firearm covered?
Search the Colorado SSF list (the state's SB25-003 specified-semiautomatic-firearms list) by manufacturer and model. If it isn't listed, a short questionnaire covers the statutory categories.
County process
What is my county doing?
Eligibility-card status, application channel, and fees for all 64 county sheriffs, with source and last-checked date on every row.
The process, in four steps
- Create a Firearms Safety System (FSS) application on the state portal (opens Jul 20).
- Apply to your county sheriff for an eligibility card: ID, name-based background check, and a fee set by the county.
- Complete the required course with a verified instructor — 4 hours with hunter education, 12 hours without — and pass the written exam (90% or better) plus the practical.
- Buy through an FFL. The card is valid for five years. A CCW/CHP does not substitute; firearms you already own are unaffected.
