List version 2026-07-30 loaded
Colorado’s Firearms Dealer Division published a new Specified Semiautomatic Firearms Guidance list version, 2026-07-30, replacing the 2026-07-01 version.

Firearms Safety System application portal is live
The state’s Firearms Safety System (FSS) application portal is live as of July 20, 2026 at coloradofss.com. The site now shows an applicant login where a first-time user can create an account and start an FSS profile online.
Creating a profile is the first step in the purchase pipeline, not the last. An eligibility card is still issued by your county sheriff after a name-based background check, and a qualifying safety course must still be completed. See /process for the full sequence.
Timing is not uniform across the state. Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s guidance notes that some counties will not review applications until August 1, 2026, and others are not accepting applications yet. The purchase requirements themselves take effect August 1, 2026. Check your county’s current status on /counties before you rely on a local timeline.
Site launch (draft)
This site is a reference for Colorado’s specified-semiautomatic-firearms law (SB25-003): the state’s published list of covered models, what changed between list versions, what each of Colorado’s 64 counties is doing about sheriff eligibility cards, and the active litigation challenging the law.
Every fact on the site carries a chip showing its source, when it was checked, and who checked it — me or the community. Data comes from versioned files I review and merge; nothing publishes automatically.
This entry is a placeholder for the launch announcement — the final wording gets a review pass before go-live (see the project’s RB-07 runbook).

Colorado’s Firearms Dealer Division published the official Specified Semiautomatic Firearms Guidance on July 1, 2026, replacing the May 15, 2026 draft. This site loaded the new version the same day.
